One Survivor Among Twenty

Some stories stay with you long after the rescue is over.

A few days ago, we received an urgent call about a group of goats who had been poisoned. By the time they reached us, many of them were already collapsing from the effects of the toxin. Their bodies were weak, frightened, and struggling to hold on.

There were twenty goats in total.

Our team immediately began treatment. Medicines were administered, fluids were given, and volunteers stayed by their side through the night, doing everything possible to keep them alive and comfortable. Every small movement felt significant. Every breath felt uncertain.

But despite all efforts, nineteen of them could not survive.

One by one, we lost them.

No matter how many rescues we are a part of, moments like these never become easier. To witness so many innocent lives suffer because of human cruelty is devastating. None of those animals deserved the end they were given. They deserved safety, kindness, and the simple right to live without fear.

And yet, amidst all the loss, one goat held on.

She was weak, trembling, and exhausted, but she continued fighting. Slowly, with treatment, care, and time, she began to recover. A few sips of water turned into small steps. Small steps turned into strength. Today, she is alive — the only survivor among twenty.

It is an honour to have been able to save her life, though our hearts ache deeply for the nineteen we could not save. We only wish we could have reached them sooner.

The cruelty human beings are capable of becomes more heartbreaking every day. But rescue work also reminds us that compassion exists too — in every person who donates, shares our posts, volunteers, or supports the sanctuary in any way. Because of that support, animals like her are given another chance at life.

She carries with her the memory of the nineteen lives that were lost. We hope her survival stands as a reminder that every animal life matters, and that their suffering should never be ignored or normalized.

Thank you for standing with us, grieving with us, and continuing to support our work at the sanctuary. Your kindness makes these rescues possible.
